Headspace Volatiles of Selected Melon, Pear and Carrot Cultivars

چکیده
Herein, we report on the results of solventand sorbent-free HS-GC-MS (headspace – gas chromatography – mass spectrometry) analysis of the headspace volatiles (HSVs) of fruits of cultivated melon (Cucumis melo L. cultivar “ananas dinja” [pineapple melon]) and pear (Pyrus communis L. cultivar “Julska lepotica” [the beauty of July]), as well as of underground parts of carrot (Daucus carota L. cultivar “nantes”). The obtained results are comparable to those of the traditional HS method. The main HSVs of melon were 2-methylbutyl acetate (42.9%), ethyl butanoate (11.4%), butyl acetate (10.1%), and methyl 2-methylbutanoate (9.8%); these are mostly biosynthetically related to amino acids. LOX (lipoxygenase) pathway products, hexanal (32.9%) and 1-hexanol (20.8%), and s sesquiterpene hydrocarbon, (E,E)--farnesene (24.9%), were found to be the dominant constituents of the pear headspace profile. The dominant HSVs of carrot underground parts were the monoterpenes sabinene (29.2%) and -pinene (21.5%).

Analysis of flavor volatiles of some Iranian rice cultivars by SPME-GC-MS
A combined gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) with headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) method has been employed for the analysis of the flavor volatiles of some Iranian rice cultivars (Domsiah, Deylamani, Hashemi, Shirodi and Tarom). The samples were grown in different cities of Mazandaran province. The sampling procedure and chromatographic conditions were same for all sa...

ABSTRACT: A combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) with headspace solid-phase micro extraction (SPME) method has been employed for the analysis of the flavor volatiles of three different rice cultivar, including two modified Iranian rice cultivars and Hashemi rice cultivar during gelatinization. The proposed combination provided a powerful system for easy and rapid screening of a...
متن کاملThe Ratio between Field Attractive and Background Volatiles Encodes Host-Plant Recognition in a Specialist Moth
Volatiles emitted by plants convey an array of information through different trophic levels. Animals such as host-seeking herbivores encounter plumes with filaments from both host and non-host plants. While studies showed a behavioral effect of non-host plants on herbivore host location, less information is available on how a searching insect herbivore perceives and flies upwind to a host-plant...
متن کاملReceiver Operating Characteristic curve analysis determines association of individual potato foliage volatiles with onion thrips preference, cultivar and plant age
Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) causes sporadic but serious disease in Australian potato crops. TSWV is naturally spread to potato by thrips of which Thrips tabaci is the most important. Prior studies indicated possible non-preference of potato cultivars to T. tabaci. Select potato cultivars were assessed for non-preference to T. tabaci in paired and group choice trials. Cultivars 'Bismark', '...
متن کاملEvolution of the aroma volatiles of pear fruits supplemented with fatty acid metabolic precursors.
To examine the biochemical metabolism of aroma volatiles derived from fatty acids, pear fruits were incubated in vitro with metabolic precursors of these compounds. Aroma volatiles, especially esters, were significantly increased, both qualitatively and quantitatively, in pear fruits fed on fatty acid metabolic precursors. Cultivars having different flavor characteristics had distinctly differe...
